When the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure 1311 was developed, it recommended using the Whatman Grade GF/F filter. Grade GF/F remains a popular and prominent component for measuring landfill leachate composition with a TCLP test. Other applications include:

DNA binding and purification
Filtering finely precipitated proteins
Filtering biochemical solutions, fluids, and nucleic acids

Application:	Recommended for DNA binding and purification. Very effective in filtering finely precipitated proteins. Can be used in conjunction with GF/D as a prefilter for the successful clarification of extremely ‘difficult’ biochemical solutions and fluids and nucleic acids. Highly suitable for use in applications involving air filtration and for gravimetric analysis of volatile materials where ignition is involved.
